How to choose machine film? Please keep this weight selection guide well

A concise guide to choosing machine film specifications based on the weight of the goods

The core principle for choosing the specifications of machine films (mainly referring to thickness, with the unit of micrometers -mic) is to ensure that the binding force and puncture resistance provided by the film are sufficient to match the weight and characteristics of the goods, while avoiding cost waste caused by "excess performance".

The basic principles are as follows

Light cargo (< 500 kilograms per pallet)

Recommended specifications: 15-17 microns regular film, or high-quality 8-12 microns high-magnification pre-stretched film.

Selection logic: This type of goods does not have a high requirement for the ultimate strength of the film. The use of high-quality pre-stretched film can provide sufficient binding force at a thinner thickness due to its higher molecular orientation, achieving significant cost savings.

Medium-load cargo (500-1000 kilograms per pallet)

Recommended specifications: 17-20 microns regular film, or 12-15 microns high-performance pre-stretched film.

Selection logic: This is the most common interval. Strength and cost need to be balanced. If the corners and edges of the goods are relatively regular, pre-stretched film can be selected. If the goods have slight irregularities or sharp edges and corners, it is recommended to use slightly thicker regular film or reinforced pre-stretched film to ensure puncture resistance.

Heavy goods (> 1000 kilograms per pallet)

Recommended specifications: Conventional reinforcing films of 20-25 microns and above, or super-strong pre-stretched films of 15-20 microns and above.

Selection logic: The pressure generated by the self-weight of the goods is large, which requires extremely high tensile strength (tensile resistance) and tear resistance of the film. Special films that are thickened or made from higher-strength resin materials (such as high-performance LLDPE) must be selected to ensure continuous stability during long-distance transportation.

Key supplements and operational suggestions:

Not only focus on weight: The regularity of the shape of the goods, surface roughness, sharpness of the edges and corners, and the jolts of the transportation journey are equally important.

Conduct on-machine testing: Before bulk purchasing, it is essential to perform pallet wrapping tests with actual goods to observe whether the film is too thin, tight or prone to puncture at the areas with the greatest force (especially the bottom and corners).

Consult the supplier: Provide details of your goods (weight, size, photos, transportation conditions). Professional membrane suppliers can offer the most accurate specification recommendations and samples.
